Exhibition: THE WORLD BENEATH OUR FEET

Eindhoven grows and reaches for the sky. This also affects the ground beneath our feet. How can we lay secure foundations for a blossoming future? Through the exhibition THE WORLD BENEATH OUR FEET the municipality of Eindhoven is putting the foundations of the growing city on the agenda.

THE WORLD BENEATH OUR FEET immerses you in the foundations under the city. Welcome in the underground world of water pipes and sewers, optic fibres and electricity cables, waste containers and parking garages. The ground is fuller than you imagine. We need a smarter approach, for now and the future.

Space under the ground

In a city that is literally brimming with plans for the future, the ground is so jam-packed that there is barely any space left for new trees to sprout roots. All the while, current issues are laying claim to the space under our feet. The energy transition and climate adaptation, not forgetting the supply of drinking water and sustainable mobility too.

Foundation of ambitions

The underground overcrowding has gone mostly unnoticed until now. However, it is one of the city’s greatest challenges. In the ground lies the foundation for all of our plans for the city. On which underground design can we build a future? Can we create a fertile substrate so that the city not only grows, but actually blossoms? There are no cut and dried solutions or answers. One thing is certain: good layout and optimum use of the ground beneath our feet is crucial.
